Salt Mines

A very special experience is the oldest salt mine in the world open to visitors in Hallein, 10 km south of the city of Salzburg. 2500 years ago the Celts mined salt for the first time. Salt used to be described as “White Gold”. In the 800-year history of salt mining on the Dürrnberg, 12 million tons of salt, have been produced!

Today visitors can follow the mysterious, ancient miners’ tunnels for many kilometres into the mystical mountain. I’d love to be at your side with expertise at this unforgettable experience.
